Ideas have been materially embodied throughout history: unraveling scrolls, written codices, and now in digital formats. Early humans stored knowledge internally prior to transcription. Knowledge was transmitted through spoken word, situating the person as version controller and archivist of story. This knowledge is stored digitally today, allowing narratives to atrophy across formats and file types. Word processors affix text with proprietary data. With Markdown, our writing is released from this unseen decay.
Scroll: paper, writing, 3D printing.
